Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone could identify this as a coral or something else? It is a deep red located on the top of a rock directly underneath my metal halide light. Nothing else in my tank resembles it, but the rock was salvaged out of a dormant, dirty, ignored tank.
Any help would be nice! Thanks!!
Heather

Looks like just a red type of corraline algea, as long as its not red slime. If it doesn't brush off, it's corraline. I've heard them called stains and heard of people trying to remove them, but I just see it as a natural part of the reef. I have a few spots of it as well, and overall seems to grow slowly

Corraline was our first guess, it's not slime, it has a hard exterior. This spot is growing quickly! It showed up a week or so ago and is now almost two inches across. I like it, just didn't want it to be something parasitic. Thanks!!
