does anyone know what this is? it's in my dads saltwater tank and we've been wondering if its harmful or ok to have in the tank.

Either a brittle starfish or serpent starfish.
I can't see the legs clearly enough to be able to completely narrow it down. The brittle starfish will have hairlike protrusions all over the legs while the serpents legs will be more smooth.
They make a good part of the CUC but do usually stay in hiding.
