I ask WAS because, the wife called me @ work and told me about it, I said grab and flush baby ! She said it was crawling super fast too, not like a snail...

Was it the right thing to do ?

Looks like a nudibranch. May or may not have been harmfull. Don't see any corals so don't think he would have done any damage. Sometimes you can capture the larger animals and trade them at the LFS.
