Which species of brain coral is this, I think it is a type of Open Brain Coral. I bought it earlier today so it hasn’t opened up all the way yet.
Picture 1 is what it looked like at the store.

Picture 2 is what it looks like an hour after acclimated in day lights.

Also I’m getting better lights soon too.

Looks to be a trachyphyllia to me, but I'm not the best when it comes to 'open' brains. I believe that this was once called wellsophyllia, but then reclassified? I'm not exactly sure, the work currently going on with some of the coral in the hobby I simply can't keep up with the changes in scientific names. Maybe it was the other way around...here's a link.

Either way, most of the open brain corals are considered 'beginner' but can have issues when it comes to flow requirements.

I don’t think it is wellsophyllia, (even though those are part of the trachy family now) because the wellsophyllias are too fleshy, but Trachys or Lobos might be what it is. One other thing is most of the polyps have three mouths, so does that give anything away?
