They started a little after 9, the sun had just gone down and there was still a little light on the horizon, I was facing west which intensified the little bit of light left and it was 3-5 second exposures, so plenty of light was getting in.

Ah--facing west--that'll do it!! We had to wait until 11pm for fireworks up here!!
