I use fishing line its mostly invisible and wont break down for years and years. Rubber bands are definately going to fail you and even zip ties will get brittle they may not break on thier own but oh well right!

i hear ya, but that wont work for me. i will be breaking it down often for cleaning and/or reconfiguring or lost fish. i deffinatley dont want to be messing around with fishing line all the time. i need it to be simple. i think im going to stick with the rubber bands because they are easy to change out.

makes sense Easy maintenance. Maybe try those releasable zip ties or use Elastic hair ties for women instead of rubber bands. Different material all together. Should hold up to water better. Get the snagless ones that dont have metal clasps. Just another thought to throw out there!!
