Hey all,
Just got back into hobby, had been into it heavily a few years back. I had to sell my tanks but couldn’t stay away. Had a 15g planted that I kept running but only just.

Thought I’d post a pic and intro, just has a betta in it due to it being column. It when he goes I’ll likely have a small group of females instead (until I get my larger tanks back)

Only plants that remained were some moss and ferns attaches to my driftwood, didn’t have anything but upgraded light.

I’ve added some lymphoides. Also added co2 currently running 1 bubble every 2.5 seconds (low ph water from tap so I have to be careful.

I’d welcome thoughts or suggestions on layout, stock or just general suggestions.

Don’t judge the scape to hard, plants need to fill out, especially the tiny ferns on lower right of wood lol.

Better picture, added my root tabs and liquid fert today. The pictures are more for me to track growth but I figured I’d post something

Welcome to the community! Sometimes the call of the aquarium is very strong! Your stump looks like it made it through to the other side all right!

Few additions (girlfriend is tired of talking about fish, so I am just posting it all here lol)
Tested my betta, very peaceful, tank is now him 2 females and some cherry shrimp
Co2 seems to be working well at just a bubble per 1.5 seconds. Liquid ferts and root tabs.
Added a couple Anubias attached to my river rocks, crypt in foreground and setup my lymphoides at rear, they grow an inch every 2 days it seems. Pruning kit arrived today so likley trim some of the moss that isn’t attached, maybe a few fern leaves that didn’t make it through the tanks downtime.

Running fluval c2, Better light is in storage somewhere, will find in a week or so.

Anyways thanks for reading, even if this ends up being a self log I hope somebody may be interested lol

If you have the male and female Bettas in the tank, the females will probably be attacked by the male as he matures and becomes at the age to breed. Often males will just one day attack and kill his conspecifics.

Even in breeding they will often attack and kill the female before or after the mating. Often it will be an out right attack, but also can be continuous bullying and stressing out the other female Betta fish.

In specific experience was sold a small, young "female" for my female tank and it was actually a male (but I didn't know as the fish hadn't developed the longer fins and body shape). In maturing to adulthood, he killed off several of the other females. Initially I didn't ever see him bothering the other females, but later I saw the aggressive behavior like cornering them, ramming them and biting.

Yes, the fish have different personalities and behavior but highly possible of it ending badly.

Yes, that was greatly considered before the attempt, my male is nearly 4 years old. The initial intention was to wait until he passed and get a small sorority, I have a backup in place should I need to remove any. Thank you for taking the time to reply.

What size sorority would you guys think for a 15g? I was thinking 4-6 but haven’t looked into it fully.

Also found and swapped my light for my Finnex fugeray planted+ led. And tweaked co2 to match.

Alter my tank lid to run both finnex and the 8w t5, one week has had quite a lot of growth, finally got me 3 Oto and 3 Nerite, along with the bettas, ghost shrimp and mts my live stocks complete. Little comparison shot, still at 1 bps co2. I’d love to get a canister with inline or reactor so it doesn’t look like 7up during the day.

Any recommendations on which setup to get? Was thinking about a fluval 106 or something.

Cleanup crew working wonders on the brown algae.

Excited, got my co2 upgrade in the mail, aquatek timer Solonoid valve for paintball bottles, picked up 24oz.

Also wanted a different stock (caught female betta nipping an oto which I’m not ok with lol, rehomed the 2 female bettas and picked up 6 juvenile harlequin Rasbora. Very peaceful and entertaining tank now.
