My girlfriend bought a Canon Powershot G9. I've used it more than she has...

These are all Kalypso, O. briareus.

She wasn't much bigger than your typical blue-legged hermit crab when I got her.

Quite the contrary. I have a nylon window-screen lid with duct tape...haha.

I used the rough side of a velcro strip on the top of the tank to deter it from climbing over. It scratches the absolute crap out of my arms. It worked for a while but since Kalypso's arms are like 14" now he just reaches over and pulls himself over when I have the screen open. Otherwise it works just fine as long as I replace the tape ever so often.

It is indeed in a species tank. I wouldn't risk the life of any fish with Kalypso. He is quite bold.

My other 'pus is an Abdopus and they are fairly sociable, tankmate friendly, But that is the only species I would take the chance with.

Mike, it looks like window screen you buy at HD or Lowes and he has it duct taped to the side of the tank.

Beautiful pictures....I wish that I had the experience to try one of these creatures.....their short life span is a draw back for me (I cry when I loose a snail)....so I'll have to admire your pictures for the time being.

Yup, I bought it at Home Depot in the windows and doors department. Comes in a big roll, way more than you'll need and it's cheap.

Non-stingy corals and lots of macro-algae. There are a few serpent and brittle stars as well, and whatever snails Kalypso hasn't eaten yet.

Yeah. There is a lot of bubble algae and while it's usually seen as a nuisance I consider it decorative. I can't keep a lot of stuff in the tank that I would like to keep (for fear of Kalypso destroying it) so I just let the algae go crazy and fill in the gaps and I occasionally prune it back. Besides, it helps with water quality.

I would already like to have her in a larger tank. The typical suggestion for O. briareus is 75 gallons, but I'd suggest a 100 or more really. As long as she doesn't grow too much more she'll be fine where she is. I'd just like for her to have more room to actually swim. She could grow quite a bit more, as this species arm span can potentially reach ~48 inches. Right now it's about 30 inches.

Her growing has slowed down over the past month. For the first couple of months she doubled in size weekly.
