So I had my first fry!! It was from a mosquito fish. But I didn't expect soo many fry, there are like 30 already and the mom is still huge! So I have 2 ten gallon tanks and the breeding one is packed with plants and has all the newborn fry swimming in it now. However, I want to put my pregnant female in there too to drop and I don't want her to eat the current fry! Any suggestions? Also, is there a way to siphon the tank without sucking up fry?
Here's a pic of one!

keep her in a breeders pin in the tank and as far as sucking up the fry I would just use a net and swirl it around to get the build up. not until they are a 3rd of moms size can you use it, since they aren't to strong of swimmers until then.

Found this tiny Platy fry in the bucket of old water from my tank. Must have gone through the syphon out into the bucket. So glad I also had some gravel in there that my husband questioned, so I looked around the bucket. This little one was swimming on the top. I I scooped it and have it in a pint container. Changing water every day and now have a little plastic bush to make it feel safe. Been feeding a little First Bites a few times a day measuring with a toothpick, stir the food it up a bit so some ImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1400265806.668749.jpgfalls.It's been a week and I think it's grown a bit, was only about a centimeter. I'm going away next week so I will transfer this one to a one gallon tank so water won't need changing while I'm away (a week). My neighbor will come in once or twice a day to feed. I really want this little one to survive. How's my plan sound?

I can't put it in my main tank as I have a Betta in there. I'm sure he'd bite thru a net to get this one

So I'm curious, what do most of you guys do with all the fry? Do you keep buying tanks to house them all? Sell them to LFS? Give them away to family/friends?

sam180, we do all of that if we have lots of fry. The batches of fry can be large, and in 6 months the fry will be able to have fry, so the population increases very quickly.

I bought 4 mollys today and put them in my tank at 11am and buy 9pm I had 20 fry swimming around hiding for their life, as I have no breeder pen(one coming Tuesday). So I got like 25 for the price of 4, but I will say I can only see about 7.... But do have another molly who looks ready to pop!!! Hopefully I can get the breeder pen before she starts... I have plants and stuff they are hiding in but one of my mollies is like the dam predator!!!

Well I thought last night she'll be having the fish in the next couple of days... And woke up this morning and find a few fry, and before I knew I had caught 21!!! So I now have 29 fry lol... I think I'm going to have to remove the male!! Lol

Yeah they are, there are 31 fry in total!!! Don't know what I'm going to do with them all.... Bloody things lol. I'm thinking of removing the male to stop them breeding

Wow. And just so you know, they can have a few more batches even after the male is gone.

Dam it!!!!! Lol why would you break my heart like this??? Lol... O well just means I can trade fish lol
