Woohoo! Lucky find at Walmart today! Before grabbing some cat food I decided to look at the bettas. Saw a couple more blue crowntail females, but decided against getting one since I already have some blue crowntails (might go back for one, though - she had a really nice shade of blue) and looked through the rather pathetic selection of males. They had maybe half the number they usually do today, and lots of "generic" looking fish. But in the last cup was a crowntail beauty! Pictures to come when I get him set up in his new home!

Does anyone know a good place online to buy bettas?

Aquabid! Lots of great sellers there overseas and in the US. Transshipping isn't as big of a hassle or expense as it would seem to be. Roughly $5 to get the fish from Thailand to the transshipper, then whatever the shipping cost is from the shipper to you. Usually around $15-35 depending on whether you choose express or priority shipping. Chard is one seller who is a member here. Never got any of his fish (yet) but I have heard great things from other members. Many of the Thai sellers have Facebook pages where they display their stock as well.

As promised, a picture!

He is a very pretty iridescent blue green with a mostly yellow anal and dorsal fin. The flash kind of distorts his colors but I couldn't get a nice clear shot without it. He is in my 1.5 gallon, which is bare for now. I will add some sand and wood a little later, but for the time being it will be kept bare to make daily pwc's easier until I can find my internal filter for the tank. No need for a heater right now, though. My ac is not working well so the place hovers between around 78-84. I have a mini heater to pop in when I need it though, although odds are he will be moved into my divided 10 gal soon enough. Just want the platy fry that are in one half to grow up a little more before moving them into the big tank.

this is how much my betta has changed in the past 4 months his colors just wont stop changing i love it

my baby betta is about 3 times the size of when i got it and its colors are coming in!! petco told me that all of their babies die and the few that do survive are female. well mines a male and is doing great. im guessing its because they probably sell them to kids that dont know what they are doing and thats why they die

This red guy is my old male betta Mojo. And the blue one is my Voodoo. They both passed away last year.
But this crowntail girl is the new betta I just bought today. Her personality made me fall in love with her right away. :)
