I just got two bettas today! one male I think is a half moon and a female I'm pretty sure is either half moon or veil tail. Prob veil tail. I'll post pics tomorrow

So I didn't know when bettas flare there fins they also flare out what looks like there gills or is it like a flap over them or something I got mine to flare up at my finger today. Wish I coulda got a pic of it he reminded me of that lizard in Jurassic Park that spits in your face before eating you lol.

That piece is commonly known as his "beard".

It certainly is a cool thing to see! I caught my boyfriend with my "fish mirror" upstairs. Upon questioning why he had it, he sheepishly admitted, "I was playing with the fish and came back upstairs and forgot I had it..." He's 23 and quite mature. It was cute!

I just bought some little accent mirrors from hobby lobby - the little ones for adding to mosaics - and hold them against the glass. But they could easily be taped on.

Or weighted and droppen in on a string? That would be funny to watch. LoL my Betta just got a few more plants in his 2 story bowl. And Wednesday he will have 10 pink pearl ramshorns and tankmates. Do you think that's too many for a 2.5g ill get a vid of him with the new plants and post it up in a few.

I was going to just sink one into the sand but I'm paranoid as to what might be in the silvering that could contaminate the tank.

Krylon clear coat in a spray can would seal in anything bad.

I think I may switch out the java moss for Christmas moss on a piece of driftwood though. And I'm going to carpet the front with either microsword or dwarf baby tears.

When my son chose our beta R2 D2, I thought he was pretty borring looking compared to lets say the crown tail beta! Also the colour was just boring blue in the dim light of the store shelf! But now that he's in his bowl on my son's desk, he reminds me of the Alexandrite gemstone that changes colours from red to blue depending on the lighting.

Here's a good little article I found for you! It's easier than typing it all out. Thai breeders swear by the IAL. I buy mine in bulk off of eBay.
