OMG this is what I was thinking about! NO WATER CHANGES! This is genius!!!
Hello AA...

Guess this thread wouldn't be complete without a pic of an experimental tank. This one's been running a few months with nothing more than some emersed land plants to keep the tank water pure.

Got tired of removing and replacing half the tank water every week, so these plants now do the work of the water changes. Have the standard filtration, but the plant roots take in the nitrogens faster than my good bacteria.

Anyway, the tank is essentially maintenance free.

Hello everyone :). I would really love to see pictures of your best tanks. I'm really into good looking smaller tanks. Especially planted ones. All pics are appreciated though! Show off what you got! Here are two of mine to start us off.

This one is my 3 month old planted 10 with 5 emerald rasboras, 1 blue female betta, and 2 orange shrimp. It's my favorite.

This is my 5 day old planted tank. Already seeing new leaves and am really excited to see it as it fills out. Currently has my young angelfish in it that I'm trying to nurse back to health. Planning on putting red cherry shrimp from another tank in there once the angel is good.

Here's my 5.5g. It has a halfmoon plakat and a nerite snail, and I plan on getting either an amano shrimp or a few RCS. It doesn't look the best right now since I'm fighting a bout of algae...

My 55G Tarraphyte Tank

Here's my experimental tank. Has a 150 or so Fancy Guppies and a dozen, small Panda and Orange Saddle Corydoras. Quite a bit of floating Pennywort and Anacharis and some low light plants.

No water changes. The emersed Chinese Evergreens take in the nitrogens from the dissolved fish waste and return pure water to the tank. I just trim the land plants to maintain good growth and top off the water that's lost to evaporation.

Very low maintenance.
