When I use adobe photoshop to put my name in the corners of photos it forces me to save the file as a psd file. How can I make it a jpeg or gif file?

Nevermind my husband showed me a lovely "save for web" feature that seems to have solved all my problems.

Yopu can "save as" whatever format you like, if you flatten the image first. In PS text is always rendered on a seperate layer.
Layer>Flatten
Layer>Flatten
