I had one of these for a while and had to rehome him. He was picking on everybody! But he was beautiful.

Was he the only rainbow in the tank? I've not had even the slightest sign of aggression out of any of my rainbows but maybe that's because I've got about 40 individuals, representing 8 different species ( I'm still trying to get good photos of the other 3, they're just never still long enough ) all get along awesomely, they don't bother the non rainbow fish either, regardless of their size or place in the tank

Was he the only rainbow in the tank?

Yes. I only had a 20 gallon back then with 8 neons and 3 black skirted tetras.

We used to call him the butthead fish since he kept everyone else intimidated.

Maybe he just needed his peeps to relate?

Yeah probably, of all 9 rainbow species I have ( I have threadfin in a smaller tank ), the boesemani and the Murray Rivers are the most docile
