I ended up leaving the stand as is and using it in my basement for storage. If I where to build another stand I would use 1◊4 and wrap it in 3/4" plywood for strength. The 2◊4 frame was overkill and didn't leave enough room on the inside for my filter and co2 tank.

Thanks for the info. Wondered if it was overkill, maybe I will use your idea and cut back on 2x4's. Thinking I could wrap it in 1/4" finish board and put doors on it with a shelf on the inside...🤔🤔

Look at commercial cabinet stands and emulate them. My 75 gallon is on 1x4's wrapped with 1/2" ply. 1/4" ply should work but doesn't give you a lot of room to nail/screw into, that's why I said I'd use 3/4" ply in the future

Still have to finish the door but it works great... it's heavy duty for sure!
