55 gallon tank without a center brace.......
I just bought a 55 [acronym:d01a6fd992="Gallon"]gal[/acronym:d01a6fd992]. aquarium at a garage sale and it doesn't have any center bracing. It was manufactured in 1979 acording to the date sticker. It's not broke or missing or anything, it just wasn't made with one. The glass thickness is 3/8 inch and was just wondering if it just has thicker glass and that's why.....My 40 [acronym:d01a6fd992="Gallon"]gal[/acronym:d01a6fd992] tank has 1/4 inch thick glass with bracing.

I think you've got it ... 3/8s is plenty thick for a 55 gallon!
if you wanted to add a center brace, you could have the glass store cut you a piece of tempered glass, 1/4" ... ~13 inches long and 3 inches wide ... cover both ends with silicone caulk, slide it in where it's supposed to go and clamp in place for 48 hrs |
