Finally decided to stop being lazy and finish my carving. Now I just need to do finishing touches on the "rocks" and start sealing them.

Update: I pulled the background out of the tank and I started to temper the surface of the foam with a heat gun. It actually made it look allot more like a real rock. I'll continue this tomorrow and start to glue everything together. I'll post pictures of the results.

Looks very cool, I never check this section so I wasn't aware of your update. How many gallons do you think you'll lose with that? Just curious since I've always been tempted to try one.

I am going to trim some of the depth off allot of the pieces, to try and keep as much volume as I can. My guess is I'll lose maybe 20 gallons. I'll figure out some kind of gallon per minute fill ratio so I know how much volume I lost.

I got all the finishing touches on the rocks done and got two base coats on the back board piece. Now I just need one more coat on the backboard then I can start attaching the rocks and painting those!

Finally got my got my paintable mixture ratio worked out. Applied my final coat to the backboard, I am really surprised how much weight that stuff adds. I had some extra left over so I painted one of the rocks.

Got the first row of rocks on and painted and the 2nd coat is currently drying. Ive decided that I am going to put one coat on before gluing them on because its a pain to reach certain parts. I also went and picked up Touch N' Foam landscape to attach the rocks since its fish safe and if i don't get it completely covered its not a big deal. Ill post pictures later.

Progress so far today as of 4pm:

It's turning out really good man. Was it easy enough to paint?

Yea its pretty easy once you get your ratios down. Thing that drives me nuts is making sure every little nook and cranny is covered you spend like 10 mins on one piece and you think its perfect and come back and there's a huge spot you missed. :banghead:

But it keeps me entertained so I cant really complain.

I was originally going to do and Mbuna tank but I am now leaning more towards a Tanganyika community tank.

Here's the list I am thinking about:

Open Water:
Cyprichromis leptosoma Bulu Point x12

Rocks & Caves:
Chalinochromis sp. ''Ndobhoi'' x 4
Eretmodus cyanostictus Chaitika 'Blue Dot' x4
Julidochromis ornatus Congo ''Yellow'' x4

Shells:
Lamprologus ocellatus ''Gold'' x6
Lamprologus brevis Katabe ''Orange Head" x6

Open Sand:
Xenotilapia singularis Ndole Bay ''Ochrogenys Ndole''x 8

Questions, comments concerns?

Revised stock list:

Cyprichromis leptosoma Bulu Point x18
Julidochromis ornatus Congo ''Yellow'' x6
Lamprologus ocellatus ''Gold'' x6
Altolamprologus compressiceps Lufubu Red x6
