BiOrb Retrofit

hi everyone,
first off i absolutely love my 16gal BiOrb, but i think the filter could be better, i am thinking it might be possible to retrofit an external canister filter and am wondering if anyone has tried something like this.
the shape doesnt really lend itself to much but i gotta think that I am not the first one to think about this.

been searching on the web, and apparently someone in UK already did it, i could not see the pics cause you have to register with the web site and i was in kind of a hurry.
