cheap HID lights

strangely enough, seeing as how this small town I live in usually has nothing usefull to offer to any sort of hobby, I found a very cheap supply of HID light bulbs

neither appear "excellent" for plant lighting, but ... if the price is right!

GE Mercury Vapor Universal burn

Standard mercury vapor light
24000+ hours
3900k color temp (neutral white)
50 cri (yech)
175 watts, mogul base, ballast b39

Retail online price is between $15-$30 each ... discount store has them for $5.49

MultiVapor Series metal halide
15000+ hours
4200k color temp (cool white)
65 cri
21000 lumens (10000 mean)
Horizontal Burn Only

Retail online price is between $30 and $70 ... discount store has them for $5.99

for what it's worth, I probably won't be gettin any, since finding hid ballasts is harder and more expensive than finding fluorescent ballasts, not to mention finding the ceramic mogul base and building a reflector

For freshwater, the latter is ok. For Saltwater, niether will be very good for color rendering. The 4200k will be a little on the red side even for FW but will suffice..BTW, what is the online site you are referencing?
