I'm confused, if you spent all the time building a cover for the light, why didn't you just build a canopy and spray paint it black? I have built canopys it is about 2 hours worth of work a way worth it.

Just wondering.... are those lights even suitable for a salt aquarium? I have been lead to believe they're not in the right spectrum as I have thought about making something like that myself many times.

It depends on the ballast you are using. Take a look at it and it should tell you what type of bulbs work with it.
