Not really once you get going. The plans I used (tweaked height a bit) were nice because they had the cut list laid out for you based on your tank. I think it has evolved over the years and now has a calculator.

Miter saw, circular saw, two drills (one with drill bit and one with a bit to match your hardware), pound or two of screws, and a pile of lumber is all you need.
