To fix the 1 inch gap problem can you just cut 1 inch off of all the longer pieces?

Yeah i could but I don't have a saw and don't feel like lugging them back to home depot. I thought about it but I'm more excited now to add flat 2x4s to the very base of the stand

I like the overlapped corners too j, def lose that middle piece in the short side, if it's any lower could create a see saw effect, not good for too heavy tanks, by the time your done that stand will be able to hold a 1000 gallon tank
