diy deco?

I've headd you can make your own deco out of yarn for spawning fish. I'd like to make quite a few little fry hiders out of yarn as I have guppies in a 75gal with a lone severum. Hes never touched any fifish before but I'd like to have free breeding guppies instead of worrying about the fry and breeders.
Is yarn aquarium safe? Will it be ab issue for any of my fish? I have a severum two highfins, a few corys, guppies and loaches.
