DIY Divided Betta Tank

@Liard-and-Dad, thank you. I actually plan on adding some small pieces of drift wood and java fern and taking out the fake stuff.
I believe the tank is made of glass, but if the plexi-glass divider won't work with silicone then I guess I need a new plan of action. :/

I was actually going to add that the plexi divider will stay in place, just not really hold anything in place. As I said, the water pressure of 5 gal should hold up fine without the rim. Here is a rimless 5 that I have, not currently used (Fluval Chi):

I'm guessing it's built with thicker glass than a regular 5 gallon tank, but I think I'll give it a try. I'll let it stand fishless out in the garage for a week or so and see if it will hold up.
