Has anybody ever tried this? I used to have this on my 20g SW setup and it worked great with LR and Cheato. I was wondering if this would have the same concept with some mechanical filtration and then some lucky Bamboo?

Would it serve its purpose and remove some of the nitrates or would it just be a waste of a good filter? I would be putting it on a 29 gallon, so I figured an AC110 would be a descent size along with another filter to tend to more mechanical and biological filtration too.

I haven't done this but some use pothos with only the roots in the filter or tank.
You could DIY a 'wall paper' tray with a pump to feed it and an overflow drain to return to tank below it. Then fill it with pothos or lucky bamboo and it would look nice besides be functionable?
The Ac filters do have a ton of room in the for creativity though...
