Paint roller pole? They make a telescoping version, 2'-8'... not positive it's tank safe though..

Decided to go with multiple scrapers. Not a perfect solution but better than nothing.

How hard would it be for your cabinet maker to cut off the top plain both cut pieces and add a piano hinge to the back of the canopy. I don't think it would be that hard. My other hobby is woodworking and thats what I would do.
