DIY protein skimmer

I built a protein skimmer, set it up, and it never created a layer of foam. Is this because i was using water out of the bath tub to test it or is it a design flaw? All ideas are appreciated

Skimmers usually dont foam in fw... I tested out my new skimmer in a bucket and it did the same thing, just filled up with white cloudy water, no foam

This is a decent article that explains the basics of protein skimming and even differentiates several models.

Ok good, because I know I'm pumping in a ton of air from 4 airstone. I'm heading home this weekend so I can hook it up on my saltwater tank and try it out
