DIY return pump shut off switch - is this crazy?
I am thinking of adding a shutoff switch to my return pump after a minor flood. <Got a new pump, didn't get the overflow set right ....>
From looking at the web, it seems I can spend $100 to buy a shut off unit, or a complicated build using relays, etc.
I had a simple idea ... Suppose I wire the float switch to the Neutral & Ground of a GFI plug. <Neutual & Ground because there is no Volts between those wires.> With the switch open, the GFI will work normal, but it should trip when the switch closes. Basically, I am using the GFI circuitry as my relay.
Do you guys think that this is a good idea? Or am I totally off my rockers?
