I am in the process of making a paludarium and was looking for plans for a 8" spillway. I know what has to be done but I am a guy who likes blueprints.

I think I'd look at using a HOB filter. A used one that's missing pieces would be great, as long as the outer housing is in good shape. Pump the water through the motor opening and let the overflow do its work. You could even add some filtration with this kind of setup.
