DIY Spraybar

Im going to make a spraybar later and im wondering if anyone else has made one. Should it be placed near the top of the tank or near the center? I dont wana blow things off my live rock all the time. My idea is to make a T connection so that one is high and one is middle.

Spray bar is real easy. Its basicly a long tube with holes drilled in it along the way. Put a cap on one end and connect the other end to your return line. Spray bars can increase your head pressure so you might get some additonal loss in flow rate.

The amount of loss kind of depends on how large and how numberious the holes are for the water to eject.

I would suggest you postiion the spray bar at the top or at the very least drill a few syphon break holes just below the water surface. The reason is if you lose power water will syphon back to your sump until air can get into the line to break the syphon. If your spray bar is 1/2 way down the tank then thats an awful lot of water your sump has to hold or alot of water that will wind up on the floor.

Installing a one way flap valve can help with the back syphon but the flap valve should not be your only line of defense between a flood in event of a power failure.
