Hi,

I am running a 9g nano reef cube and am drawing up plans for a "HOB" acrylic refugium.

here's the tank thread:

The refugium itself will be as wide as the tank and a bit higher to make the "gravity feeding" possible.

Here's a basic, quick drawing I put together:

The plan is to have a sand bed, some life rock and macro algae. Hopefully I'll be able to grow a self-sustaining colony of life-food.

Lighting: I'll probably put together some sort of DIY LED-fixture and leave that on 24/7. The panel facing the wall will be painted black.

My biggest concern is the skimmer design. I have seen a similar design in a youtube video but never actually at work. I want to rest the "skimmer lid" on brackets inside the intake section and run 2 basic airstones via a eheim 400 pump.

This is just my idea of a counter-current skimmer. Does this design have any chance of working? Any opinions on this would be appreciated! (y)
