DIY Tank Questions

Hello! As some of you know, I'm interested in setting up a saltwater tank sometime within the next year. I was looking at some saltwater aquarium info, and ran across a DIY tank article. I then came here, and looked at the GARF's website bery briefly, but found it amazing, and extroadinarily helpful! (I'd read through it more carefully if I decided to do a DIY tank.) But...If I built a tank it would most likely be anywhere from 150-200 or so gallons. Would it be worth it to build a tank, or is it likely that I'd end up with cracked materials, wasted money, and a disaster? What materials would you suggest using for this tank (glass, acrylic, plywood and glass, plywood and acrylic)? Has anyone built a larger tank (100+ gallons) if so, do you have and hints or pointers, and how did this turn out? Is it hard to drill the bottom of a DIY tank to setup something similar to the All-Glass Overflow/MegaFlow system?? I think that's it, and I'll do a lot more reading if I decide to build one, but any other good websites that discuss a DIY tank would be great!! Thanks so much!

Hey there, I own an acrylic fabrication business and often build large tanks. I love the acrylic medium but do not recomment it for beginners in large appications. I also love to help people with DIY acrylic projects, but try to keep them small and non-devistating, if you will. For anyone with decent woodworking skills plywood tanks are fairly easy and sound enough to last quite awhile (though I don't know of anyone with a 10 year old ply tank either).

If you have any specific questions I'll be happy to help where I can. I think you will find DIY rewarding and easy to adapt to your exact needs. Drilling is generally a snap as is making t work for you.

Good luck and keep us posted.
