The back glass on 55s are not tempered so it should be safe to drill I plan on drilling a 55 soon also. im thinking a 2-3/8 inch holesaw ( 2 3/8 Glass Cutting Holesaw - Glass-Holes.com dope aquarium stuff ) and a 1-1/2 inch bulkhead ( 1.5 inch aquarium bulkhead slip x slip )..
Good luck, ive heard its not as hard as it looks.

Ok so about to drill my take and i am thinking about adding a closed lope as well. My question is would five wholes on one pain of glass take to much strength out of it?

No it'll be fine. But you will probably need two drill bits.they don't last for that many holes

I just drilled 11 tanks with my cheap ebay bit, and did 6 or 7 others before it with the same bit. I did notice it takes a bit longer but still works great.
