I understand that female betta can get along but can they live with other tropical fish like platys. And how do I make the bettas get along.

Betta have their own personalities, some get along and some fish fight.

I kept one female with my tank (her name was Pearl) and she chased the the other fish away from where ever she claimed as her own spot but didn't bite or hurt any. Sometimes she would just swim around with the Guppies like she was friends.

A different female was the meanest fish I ever had - killed her tank mates and was not friendly at all. Mean Green.

So the chances are not too bad that you could have a female if she liked being around the other fish. You can't "make" them like the other fish.

Be careful of over stocking. Also have some soft plant around the top back of the tank for a Betta would like to sit and rest. Make sure she will get fed the food she needs.
