Finishing Problems..In Wall build...

I am in the process of doing an In wall build. I built a new floor to ceiling wall off of an existing closet. I originally was just going to drywall the top half and use wainscotting for the bottom so I have access to the filter. The problem I am encountering is how am I going to join the drywall and wood as they are different thickness's. OR If I did it all in drywall can I hinge the drywall with plugs and screws then use vinyl moulding on the exposed edges???

I know some of you old timers have to have an idea.

Shims behind the wainscotting, or a wooden frame to support the drywall door and the hinges.

Yeah I think some shims or framing it out would be your best bet. There are lots of different trim options out there that would work for the edges.

I'd put down a layer of OSB board of whatever thickness you need behind the wains coating. Then both will be the same thickness, and the OSB will give you a little more support for hinges, latches, etc.
