Fluval Flex LED control upgrade

So I love the Flex and the light is pretty good for what it is but am disappointed in the automation. I bought the Fluval LED timer and was sad to see that although good it's just a fancy dimmer that cannot activate moon lighting. This is really unfortunate since even at 2% the white light is too bright and at 1% the light just turns off.

My question is has anyone found a DIY mod to give more control or upgrade the light? I was thinking of adding another cheap blue light underneath the lid plugged into the timers 2nd input for the moon lighting effect.

Are you doing this for the look or for the fish? If you can turn on just the red light the fish thinks it's dark. Seen this on a video a while back.
