I am also curious about this. I have an RES with a couple platys in a 55g and I'm running a Rena XP3 and Wisper 30i with no luck. Both have carbon in them. My RES's 125g with 30g sump will be ready this week but I don't want to run into the same problem. I'm hoping upping the filter media and carbon will take care of it. If not, I may try an extra UV sterilizer I have.

Thought I'd update my thoughts on the green water problem... well its cured! i bought a UV light to go in line with my filter pump.
in only two / three days the tank Clear water ..... Money well spent !
