Growing bloodworms

Ve been trying to do some research on growing bloodworms for my fish. There are several different methods available online. Does anyone have a tried and tested method?

Since bloodworms aren't worms, but insect larvae, you need to place a container of water with nutrient material in it such as dead leaves and hope the midges lay eggs in it so you will have bloodworms. At the same time, mosquitos will likely deposit eggs there as well, and are perhaps a better source of food.

Being in Scotland we don't have mosquitos (in my area anyway) but PLENTY of midges. What kind of nutrient material do you recommend?
