Hamburg Matte Filter

Has anybody have any experience with a Hamburg Matte Filter? Was it good, bad, indifferent?

Plenty of Europeans using them exclusively now. Just a giant sponge filter, and makes an unbeatable tank divider for breeding fish. The huge surface of the sponge provides plenty of food for tiny fry to eat.
