I absolutely refuse to pay big bucks for LFS sump/prefilter

Okay, so I want to do my own sump/refugium, but I need some help. I have a 55 [acronym:c0dec405a2="Gallon"]gal[/acronym:c0dec405a2] and I'm gonna use a 20 [acronym:c0dec405a2="Gallon"]gal[/acronym:c0dec405a2] for a sump. I'm also gonna get an inexpensive prefilter on ebay, and also a mag 9.5. So I have a stupid question.....what do I use to hook up the mag? clear acrylic hose or flexible tubing or something else? Also, if I use either one, how do I get the tubing to stay in the main? perhaps a suction cup? And where would I find all this stuff? I know it's a lot of questions, but I know it shouldn't be that hard. My [acronym:c0dec405a2="Local Fish Store"]LFS[/acronym:c0dec405a2] sells acrylic sumps with prefilters for $229.....that's crazy!

I used threaded [acronym:78994a91e1="Plastic pipe"]PVC[/acronym:78994a91e1] to connect my mag pump with a flex line in the middle (check the lawn sprinkler section) and then I would [acronym:78994a91e1="Plastic pipe"]PVC[/acronym:78994a91e1] it into the tank. You can find all of that at Menards or Home Depot.

What do you mean by "[acronym:0cae1c7c13="Plastic pipe"]PVC[/acronym:0cae1c7c13] it into the tank"? My tank is not reef ready, I guess I should have mentioned that

For the return, you can build a U-shape that hangs into your tank with a 90 elbow so the flow doesn't go directly down. I've seen it before several times.
