I have these little building decorations like the villages people set up at Christmas time (fire station, school, bakery, church, etc) that I would like to use to decorate one of my tanks.

I'm not 100% sure the paint is safe for the tank or if would stay on them and I certainly dont want to do anything to harm my fish. I plan to run them through the dishwasher a couple of times to make sure there isnt any dust/debris left on them.

Is there a type or brand of clear lacquer or something of that nature that I could use to coat the decorations that would be safe for my aquarium?

Check if Krylon Fusion is available in clear. Fusion is made for plastics and I've seen good results using it in aquariums. Just let it cure for a few days before putting it in the tank.
