mounting lighting inside canopy

I'm mounting L brackets on the sides of my canopy in my 20 long in order to support my 24 inch t-5 lighting. It's the older style light by coralife with the built-in extending wire supports. I bought some zinc brackets at the local hardware store and i'm wondering if that metal will be safe for aquarium use. It's a freshwater setup.

I believe zinc will rust (google: zinc rust proof). I would go with stainless steel instead.

Yeah I had that sinking feeling. Glad I waited before drilling. I'll look for stainless. What about brass?

Brass should be okay too; it is used for plumbing fixtures.
