MV pendent light

does anyone know if i can use 175w mercury vapour pendent light found at [acronym:7af33a3a1d="Home Depot"]HD[/acronym:7af33a3a1d] with 175w [acronym:7af33a3a1d="Metal halide light"]MH[/acronym:7af33a3a1d] bulbs?? Are the ballast basically the same??

No...the ballast isn't the same. [acronym:a7d4f86600="As far as I know"]AFAIK[/acronym:a7d4f86600], the only [acronym:a7d4f86600="Metal halide light"]MH[/acronym:a7d4f86600] bulb that will reliably fire on an MV ballast is the Iwasaki 6500k bulb.

sorry for butting in, but i'm interestedin this also. how many watt iwasaki? would 6500k be ok for a propigation tank? any risks using the mh bulb in a mv pendant?

I think the Iwasaki bulbs are available in 250 and 400 watt. I think they will fire on any MV ballast of appropriate wattage, but I'm not 100% sure about that. I do know they use a MV ballast though. 6500k will give you fast growth, but not much coloration. You could grow them under the 6500 and season them out under 10k or higher to get the color.
