DIY moss ledge. You only have to buy two items for the ledge itself. Both from Walmart.

Start with suction cups with attached plastic hook from Walmart.

Slide the hook out of the suction cup.

Cut your mesh to size. This is in the crafts section.

Use a razor knife to cut a perpendicular slit with the hook hole. From the top of the suction cup post to the bottom. Don't cut into the cup part.

Then insert your mesh into the slit and find where you want it to sit.

Once you decide where you want it cut a square out of the mesh with your razor knife.

Then break your plastic hook. You want the straight piece.

Line the square you cut into the mesh up with the hole that the hook was first sitting in.

Then you take the straight piece of the broken hook and push it through the bottom hole, through the square in the mesh and out through the top. And you're done!

You can make 6 ledges for under 4$. And for the last step you really have to push the plastic piece through.

You can also use aquarium safe glue, zip ties or string to attack the cup to the mesh.

Here is a ledge with Java moss. It's only a weed old. Once the moss grows fuller I'll trim it down so that it grows onto the mesh. And eventually it'll grow so full that it looks like a floating bunch of moss. If you cover the sides and back of your tank with the ledges and add some drift wood (that looks somewhat like tree branches) with moss on the ends it'll make your tank look like a canopy. IMO

That's a good idea. If you keep up with the plan, you should periodically post pics to show the progress (or comments with set backs since those can be good learning experiences too).
