My rebuild

So I have taken some time to rebuild my barrack, I have 4x 5l container on two shelfs. I have added extra support for each shelf, support for feeding and sump pipe work, I was using zip ties before. Also did new sump feeding pipes for each shelf, I spaced it evenly and same on each shelf, and also used JG speedfit 10mm barrier pipe with elbows instead of ruber tubing bend and siliconed to each container as sump tubing, now I can remover individual container and do proper clean up etc... Also rebuild the top shelf for plants and moss grow out, and heat bend the PVC sump pipes to an angle, to prevent water build up. Also added support to the back so the shelving is more stable and there's no way it can fall apart.

water and particle board don't play nice . first the laminate will bubble than the shelf will start to warp , until the weight of the tank brings it all down , that shelf isn't rated to hold a tank of water , Now if that shelving was made out of real wood you would be solid ,

You are so clever, so why do the Fu***** tanks come with ply wood stands? I have 250L and its ply wood no solid wood, 5 years no problem so where's yours ?

Particle board and plywood are totally different materials. Plywood is much more resistant to water compared to particle board. That's why most stands are made of either plywood or solid wood or a combination of the two. If you are using something made of particle board as a stand it's a ticking time bomb and I suggest you replace it.

Yep solid truth, I ordered allpond solution 250l came with particle board stand which I wasn't happy about, so I changed it to plywood after a year. The original stand "particle board" was intact,just light scratches on the top, of the tank when it was being moved. The barrack isn't particle board but MDF boards and as further as I know if there are no leaks the MDF won't be affected.

Moving time tomorrow, this is how it looks after dismantling the containers


Done some sound insulation work on the sump pump even through I changed the propeller shaft and lubricated it over the edge. And gonna do little more tomorrow as well as DIY stage filter, pics later.


Had ^^ concerns by other users on here to peace your minds since my last update it's been trial running till today, no leaks or brake downs.

If the Particle board, or ply board are kept from period of water exposures it can't get soaked so it's integrity and structure stays the same only what matters is the weight of the water acting on the shelf, in my case it's been ok for 2 years even I had leak which I didn't know about. So am happy to predict that until man error occurs it is going to be safe. Thanks guys for your concerns.

Filter pads and filter gravel in the top section

Inserted into a bottle with sand at the bottom


The DIY canister filter on the left in another container with fluidised media in another bottle, also some biological filtration such dwarf lettuce, or the duck weed, also Java moss, and the water pump it self is sealed with filter pads
