Well I finally had a chance to Upgrade my Skimmer and Sump/Refugium so I started my DIY project on my sump. I have completed the project and I am happy with the results just thought I would share a few picture with you...

It was Massive

Inserted the Baffles I used 4 2x 9 inch baffles 1x 11inch baffle and 1 71/2 inch baffle

I had to take the whole tank apart to bring the sump down from the top of the tank.Sucked but well worth it. It was a perfect fit.

The skimmer is working like a horse and is already skimming I've had this skimmer running for about 4 days now. I am happy with the end results.

So you have an overflow that drops water down and then a return pump (Im assuming)? What happens if power goes off? Do you have a fail safe? I was wanting to do this to my tank but too scared.

if you set the overflow properly, only the amount of water that is pumped out of the sump will go back down through the overflow. there is no way to overflow the sump unless the overflow it just not positioned correctly, but if its not, chances are its going to overflow out of the sump even during normal operation as the overflow is capable of more gph than the pump. make sense?

Yes my overflow is an Eshopps overflow 800gph with a Mag 7 return pump. Both are a great combination together. It is fail safe, I drill a hole at the end of the return just above the water level so when the power goes out that sump will not overflow. Hth

After a week of Skimming got some nice Skimmate

Best investment yet.

Wow, good job. What size piping did you use on the return? 1", 0.5"?
