Is a PVC pipe safe to use? It's not going to be in the tank itself but water will be going through it to get to the tank.

PVC pipe is fine for tank use, many people put it in hospital tanks for hiding places. Just rinse it and get the dirt and stuff off.

Yup it's safe. If you're using primer and glue wait 24 hours for it to fully cure and then rinse before using in your tank/system.

I actually have it IN my quarantine tank, and some people that have SW eels put it in the display tank for them to hide in.

Yes, PVC is safe to use. It is an inert material and will not affect your water. Make sure that you sand down any rough edges though. You don't want tiny food sized pieces of PVC floating around your tank.
