So I realized that if I swapped the in and out I could put a piece of 1/2" cpvc down the center and have the water force in through the bottom and work up and get a much nicer agitation.
I removed the DI resin cartridge I was using and just put a piece of plastic mesh screen around the pipe to keep phos band from working its way into the tank.

I like this better and it much easier to deal with when reloading.

I got mine off Amazon then the other pieces from home Depot and Lowe's

Should cost around 30$ to build even with pump, also bought off Amazon for like 8$

this is the pump

mind you even ALL the way down this pump is a beast, you could use the output on its lowest as a powerhead. I actually had to have it blasting a rock because it was so powerful. You usually want the contact with the water on the phosban or gfo to be as long as possible to extract the phos so if you can reduce the intake its probably better. I bought an 80gph pump but it was so un-powerful I stuck with this one. I use some filter floss on the intake of the pump with a rubber band for now to keep it from sucking in garbage and it works but Im looking for a better option to be honest. Ive been thinking of a filter sock or empty purigen bag. I would really like to set up something that would act as a catch filter for dead hair algea and such but I havent figured it out yet, though I havent had much time.

The new way I set this up is WAY better and much cleaner. remember to just use the "in" as the out and vice versa.

I got the plastic mesh at hobby lobby in the sewing section but any will prob do. Honestly I dont think you even need the mesh since it doesnt blow it around that hard.
