Id have to do some hiking to find some slate.. there is a section of the next town south that is called slaty banks.. LOL right next to blue lick (lick=the little track of land beside a creek) and the blue is from blue slate..LOL
KY is full of the blue slate.. its a bit more fragile then the gray stuff though...
 
I keep a bunch of it around some plant beds so I just walk out in the yard and grab a piece. I think a lot of ppl get it at home and garden centers.
