hello again. i was hoping any of you could help me figure out how to build a skimmer for my 10 gallon tank and 10 gallon sump. i left for about ten days and i noticed dirty bubbles on the surface. i figured i better get a skimmer fo rit. my problem is that all the plans i fond seem to build really big skimmers. i was wodering if i can modify the plans to a smallwer size or should i just buy one? thanks again.

have you seen anything like this?

and these airstones make full sized BIG skimmers worthwhile even with needlewheel pumps being available now.. :p

there are some smaller stones in there if you look close..

I would upsize the parts on the skimmer in the fist link to one size bigger.. make sure to get a VERY good airpump and order a little airstone from the second link.. If I wanted a killer DIY skimmer for the job....

if I was to price a prefab for the job.. Id look at the CSS 65's price (it would be good for a tank about 30gallons so it would be a bit bigger then needed but I wouldnt want to spend more then that on a DIY job if you know what I mean)
ok.. those are 90 bucks.... you should be able to tackle this for much less if your so inclined.. :p

i think i'm going to get that new nano skimmer. it looks like it will do the job. thanks

I goofed on the first link..

the pictures dont work unless your a member of the fourm though.. :?
he has parts lists though..
the poster seems to think the design as is would be good for up to 20 gallons.. It should do as is.. :p

Ive seen the nano skimmer and its rated for 12 gallon nano cubes..
it wouldnt give you much leaway.. I honestly wouldn't be comfortable with a skimmer that wasnt rated for at least twice my system volume.. thats JMHO though..

maji- i looked at those plans, and i like the price. so i think i'm going to do that instead. thanks for saving me $$ and probably many headaches!! and one question if you don't mind. i assume the wooden airstone releases smaller bubbles (but i don't know). so how powerful of an airpump will i need? or can i use one of my little airpump? thanks again
